Pixies and Boys Units at WDC:
PIXIES:
Children of our volunteers, who are not camper aged Girl Scouts but are preschool ages 3-5 (and potty-trained) can be in the Pixies Unit. BOYS: Boys of our volunteers that are ages 6 through 6th grade can be a part of the Boys Unit. These are special units at camp and are only available to our full-time adult volunteer families. ***Our Pixies and Boy campers can be registered for camp when the adult volunteer registers for camp. These units create a wonderful opportunity to bring the 'whole family' to camp. |
When and what will they do at camp?
|
Activities:
Our Pixies and Boys Units rotate to all of our stations, participate in leading flag ceremony, and do just about everything else our Girl Scout campers do during the day at camp. The Boys Unit is a multi-aged unit of campers ages 6 through 6th grade. Boys grades 7 and up can help run our Boys units as PA (Program-Aides). All Boy Program Aides will need to attend the PA Retreat to prepare for camp. Volunteer Attendance: Our Pixie and Boy campers are able to come to camp as long as their volunteer parent is at camp. As a volunteer parent if you stay home due to illness or to a schedule change or emergency, your Pixies and Boys are unable to attend without you. Also, if you volunteer to work a part-time schedule (only with director approval), your Pixies and/or Boy can only attend on the days or times you are volunteering. As a volunteer, if your availability changes or you are no longer able to finish the week of camp for an emergency, your camper can continue to attend camp, however Pixies and Boys are unable to attend without you. If you are unavailable (after all) to volunteer for the week of camp, you need to adjust your camper(s) fee and write a check for the remaining balance of a full-time camper. This can be mailed in or turned into CORE the Monday of camp. Please contact us for updates and to confirm amounts and payment. * Our Pixies units have been assigned a cabin starting in 2023 for a place for Pixies to go as well as have a fun place to take a break. Pixies have traditionally set up their home location next to the Barn in a shady area or under a pop up if needed. Use of both areas would be a great change of location during the week. |
Pixies & Potties
|
If your Pixie has any trouble with using the restroom at camp, regresses in potty-training, or ends up with challenges at camp with using the potty (including porta-potties, flush toilets, pit toilets, etc. at camp) you as the parent/guardian will be responsible for any accidents, changes of clothing, etc. Our volunteers and teens are not trained to handle this level of care or need. If this occurs at camp you will be expected to take care of it.
If there is a physical challenge or disability that requires additional help or support, it will need to be discussed with the directors and a plan will be developed and agreed upon between the volunteer and directors. ***We have learned that it can be very challenging or distracting when parents drop by to say hello to our Pixies. Our Pixies often tend to want to spend more time with their parents once they see you. This makes separating again very hard and can really up the emotions of the entire Pixie group. It also often disrupts the activities they are doing. Please try to limit your time stopping in to say hello to lunch time. Eating lunch with the Pixie unit is a great way to schedule a time that your kiddo knows they will see you. Please check in with the Unit leaders to make sure this is OK and where they will be eating. This is a great time to ask your child what they have been up to, get updates from the leaders, help reapply sunscreen, etc. If you have further questions please contact the directors at [email protected] |
