WDC Adult Camp Guidelines and Conduct:
As an Adult Volunteer at Woodinville Day Camp:
1. I will observe the rules and regulations at camp, and accept direction from the Day Camp Directors. (I understand that we are required to wear closed-toe shoes and camp and t-shirts at all times. I understand there is no tree climbing, no wadding or swimming ever, and that campers should always be with a buddy or another teen or adult.)
2. I will provide safety and supervision for the campers and teens. I understand that I am expected to be at camp, without distraction or interruption for the entire day each day I am volunteering from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
3. I understand that member registration with Girl Scouts of Western Washington for the current registration school year is a requirement for volunteering.
4. I understand that to volunteer at camp, I also must register as a volunteer on the GSWW website and have a current background check on file with GSWW.
5. I understand that if I am unable to fulfill my volunteer commitment, my children('s) registration(s) may be cancelled at the discretion of the leadership team. (I understand that Boy and Pixie campers may only attend camp when the parent volunteer is at camp including when illness and schedule changes occur.)
6. I will not endanger the health and safety of myself, campers, teens, adults, or property.
I understand that, even when conducted in a safe manner, camping programs involve inherent risk and possible injury because of the nature of the activity.
7. I will stop and report unsafe behavior immediately to a Director.
8. I will always be “two deep” in leadership and never meet with a camper alone without another adult or teen leader present or in sight. (Only parents can help their own children with using the bathroom or changing clothing. If additional help is needed, the Directors or Health Supervisors should be contacted.)
9. I will use appropriate physical contact including-using fist bumps, high fives, and side hugs only. (Do not have children sit on your lap or ride on your back.)
10. I will help children with hands-on skills or techniques as needed from an appropriate position, demonstrating or helping with skills from the side or in front, not from behind.
11. I will only sign the back of camp t-shirts and only if the camper initiates it by asking me. (The signing of camp shirts is part of our tradition.)
12. I will never share personal phone numbers, emails, post photos, etc. without the child’s parent giving verbal or written permission.
13. I will only give car rides during the camp day or while on the camp grounds to another adult volunteer (maroon or purple shirt) who is at least 18 years old. (Seatbelts must be worn at all times.)
14. I will limit time hanging out in my child’s unit or in other camper units unless it’s lunch time. (I understand that this helps keep unit dynamics and campers happy. Hanging out or stopping into say hello often can be very distracting and can disrupt the calmness of a unit and can create the “need to be with mom”.)
